Heritage Volunteers Our groups of Heritage Volunteers working at Rockingham Castle are currently working one day per two weeks per group on the archives, cleaning and preserving where necessary, the papers and other items including seals, increasing numbers of photographs, sketches and small watercolours. They have finished working through the estate papers, comprising deeds, accounts, matters concerning tenants and clergy and the parish dating from not too long after the Norman Conquest, when the Castle was built.  They are presently dealing with personal papers of the family, chiefly from the mid nineteenth century onwards. These include photographs, letters, newspaper articles and some papers and reports concerning historical events in which family members played a part.  This work is ongoing at the present time Web site created and maintained by Janet Groome, Handshake Computer Training
